Role(s) Filled: Territory Sales Manager
Timeline: 32 days
The Challenge
We’ve worked with ViWinTech intermittently since we first placed with them in 2018. The Kentucky-based vinyl window and door manufacturer primarily targets residential markets, whether that be new constructions or replacing existing windows. We’ve maintained a warm professional relationship with one of their National Sales Managers for a long time, so when they ran into a dead-end in their search for a Territory Sales Manager in Michigan, they brought our recruiters in to enhance their efforts.
The Strategy
This was an expansionary role to support their ever-growing sales efforts. The person in this role would be a pioneer, greenfielding a brand-new territory and helping them put a sturdy stake in the ground.
They had a few qualifiers for their new Territory Sales Manager. This person needed to know and deeply understand distribution. They’d be calling on distributors, lumber yards, builders and contractors. And someone who already had experience with windows or—at a minimum—building products was strongly preferred.
Of the potential candidates we submitted, three made it to the interview stage. But after just one interview it became very clear which of the candidates was the right one to hire.
The Solution
The recruiter who first called the candidate they hired knew immediately that she was the right person for the role. We reached out to her very early in the search process, only two days after kick-off with the ViWinTech team.
She’d worked in her then-current territory sales role for five years and wasn’t overly keen on staying with a company that felt more “corporate.” She’s previously worked in more of a manufacturing rep role and was interested in working somewhere that felt similar to that experience.
Luckily for everyone involved, she had everything they wanted in spades. She’d worked in both distribution and manufacturing, so she had a thorough understanding of both sides of the business. She specialized in building materials with a primary emphasis on B2B sales. In just her most recent role she called on two-step distributors, lumber yards, builders, and contractors, so she already had plenty of solid industry relationships. Overall, she’d spent nearly two decades of her career exceeding her sales goals, selling to all the right people in the exact markets ViWinTech hoped to break into.
Our team knew immediately that she was the right fit. And it was clear with every further interview round she moved to that their team felt the exact same way.
The Outcome
Because our recruiters found her so early in the process and the entire ViWinTech team was aligned on hiring her, this was an exceptionally fast placement. From the day we kicked off our search to the day she accepted her job offer, only 32 days had passed. Overall, it was only a month and a half after kick-off that she had her first day in her new role.
Since joining the team, she’s done an excellent job using her existing relationships—while also building new ones—to give ViWinTech increasingly strong footing in this relatively new market. Both the hiring team and candidate have been exceptionally happy with how everything turned out, and we remain a sharp tool in their arsenal when they have difficult or complicated searches.
