Role(s) Filled: Senior Director of Sales & Marketing
Timeline: 60 days
The Challenge
Our history with Belwith Keeler goes back to the early 2010s, with us intermittently working together on director and manager roles for their sales team since then. For this particular search, the Belwith Keeler team hoped to bring a new level of leadership to the portion of their business targeting the trades. But very early in the process, our search took a slight shift with the unexpected exit of a role-adjacent team member.
This vacancy made hiring a Director of Sales & Marketing all the more critical. While they’d served the trades in the past, they never had someone on the team to truly tackle it head-on. That meant finding a team leader who could set the strategy and execute the sales vision on a national scale. A candidate who could act as both director and salesperson.
The Strategy
Because of the company’s dynamic nature, they needed a candidate who was equally dynamic. Kitchen & bath experience was a must-have, and the ideal candidate would be well-versed in the omnichannel approach the manufacturers have. Because they’re headquartered in Grandville, MI, they hoped to find someone within a commutable distance.
In our search, we found nearly 40 candidates we thought could fit the bill. But after a single phone call, our recruiters knew they’d found one who stood out from the rest. In the end, she was the only candidate we presented to the hiring team, and we sent her over the day they initiated the search.
The Solution
That one candidate won them over near-immediately. She had years of experience working for an industry association. She wanted more support in her role there than they gave her, leaving her open to potential opportunities elsewhere. And after spending her earlier career in the kitchen & bath industry, she was eager to get back into it.
One call with her told us what we needed to know. Her confidence and charisma spoke legions about her character, and she wasn’t afraid to share her opinion. She brought years of industry experience and expertise, presented incredibly well, and her assertive approach was exactly what the Belwith Keeler team was looking for. And while she wasn’t located in Michigan, she lived in Chicago, where the company’s president also resided.
The Outcome
This search took less than two months to complete, and everyone was incredibly happy at the end of it. The hiring team was happy to tweak the role title and bump their budget for the perfect candidate, and she was excited to have found the ideal role for the next step in her career. While we aren’t in an active cycle of searches for Belwith Keeler, we’re always a recruiting tool in their back pocket, ready to drum up their next great hire.
