The Challenge
Prior to this search we’d been in contact with Tal-kno’s hiring team, but this was the first time they brought us in to support their hiring team. They were looking to hire two doors, frames, and hardware estimators, but three requirements complicated the search:
- Specific experience estimating for doors, frames, and hardware,
- Able to use a highly specific, somewhat uncommon estimating software called Software for Hardware, and
- Be within driving distance of Tal-kno’s facility in Georgia.
They brought us in because they knew we’d have a much better chance of finding candidates with such a niche skillset in such a small geographic area. And, due to their manufacturing capacity and existing sales efforts, they needed to bring this new talent in ASAP. In manufacturing, no estimators = no production line. Without estimators, companies continue to lose out on critical sales opportunities.
The Strategy
After rapidly sending over a batch of incredibly qualified candidates without Software for Hardware experience, it became clear that the software knowledge was especially important to them. They didn’t have the time or capacity to train someone new on the software, so existing experience was critical for any real candidate.
Keeping their budget in mind, we dove back into the search, specifically seeking candidates with Software for Hardware experience. We dug through our candidate database and scoured LinkedIn, ultimately sending over three candidates who checked each of their boxes.
The Solution
In less than two months, we’d found, interviewed, and signed two new estimators onto their team. While all three candidates were excellent, at the time they only had the budget to bring on two of them. Of the women they brought on, one already lived within a commutable distance while the other needed to relocate for the role. But in the end, both accepted the job offers and started on the same day.
The Outcome
more fun for our team. Sometimes clients bring us in as a long-shot effort to find what they see as an impossible unicorn candidate. Surprisingly the Tal-kno team, delivering not one, but two qualified candidates is such energizing work for us.
While their internal hiring team continues doing an amazing job of bringing necessary talent into the company, we continue having discussions with them on opportunities for future search for other roles in the organization.
