Who They Are
We’re working with an industry-leading manufacturer in the building products space looking to add a Director of Safety to their team. This is a highly visible hands-on role with responsibility for safety across 37 manufacturing and distribution facilities. You’ll partner closely with operations, travel to key sites for incident investigations, safety audits, and hazard reduction initiatives, while helping build and strengthen the company’s overall safety culture. What You’ll Do
  • Implement and maintain the company’s safety programs and processes across North American sites
  • Design the company safety policy (e.g., regulatory compliance, MSDS to SDS transition, proactive initiatives, reporting culture)
  • Support the execution of continuous improvement safety initiatives and help reinforce a safety-first culture
  • Ensure alignment with company standards and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Partner with site teams to drive ownership and accountability for safety practices
  • As required, participate in M&A activities: Project team member, site inspections, and recommendations
  • Lead and coordinate incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Oversee and support workers’ compensation and claims processes across the U.S. and Canada
  • Ensure timely Reporting, Documentation, follow-ups and case closure
  • Identify trends and recommend improvements to reduce incidents and risk
  • Conduct regular site visits, inspections, and safety audits across North America
  • Support site leaders in identifying hazards and implementing practical solutions
  • Provide day-to-day safety guidance to leaders and teams
  • Participate in and support site safety meetings and committees
  • Coordinate and support delivery of safety training across locations
  • Provide guidance to ensure consistent understanding and application of safety practices
  • Support development and updates to training resources
  • Reinforce safe work practices through ongoing engagement with site teams
  • Maintain oversight of Safety audits, inspection programs, documentation and compliance records
  • Track and report on Safety metrics, incident trends, and action plan progress
  • Ensure follow-up actions are completed and documented across sites
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field (preferred)
  • 5–8 years of safety or EHS experience in manufacturing or operations environments
  • Ability to travel approximately 20-30% across North America to support site visits, audits, and investigations, and must be eligible to travel between the United States and Canada (including maintaining appropriate documentation and meeting cross-border entry requirements)
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA (U.S.) and Canadian safety standards and workers’ compensation systems (WorkSafe, WSIB, etc.)
  • Experience with Incident investigations, Claims / workers’ compensation coordination
  • Safety certifications such as CSP, ASP, or CRSP are considered an asset
  • First Aid / CPR certification is an asset
  • Ability to work hands-on across multiple sites
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage follow-ups and priorities
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills
  • Experience with safety systems/tools (e.g., Velocity EHS) is an asset
