Who They Are
We have been retained by a highly regarded distributor of building materials and commercial surfaces. They’re seeking an Inside Sales Manager to lead and develop their inside sales teams across multiple branches, focusing on driving sales performance, and improving customer service while creating alignment with outside sales, purchasing, and operations. The company is looking for someone with strong leadership ability, a coaching mindset, and experience managing inside sales or customer service teams within building materials, distribution, or construction supply. This is a highly visible leadership role with responsibility for team development, KPI management, CRM accountability, process improvement, and strategic collaboration across the organization. Travel is approximately 30-40%, and the company offers strong long-term growth potential within a stable and relationship-driven culture.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead 16 inside sales reps over 3 locations
  • Standardize systems processes
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, team huddles, and coaching sessions.
  • Oversee onboarding, training, and development for Inside Sales Representatives.
  • Develop and maintain training programs for:
    • Microsoft Office tools
    • Product knowledge (e.g., plywood, surfaces, laminates, hardware)
    • DMSi Agility, CRM, and OneSource systems
  • Partner with Product Managers for ongoing product training
  • Maintain training paths in Paycor and coordinate individual development plans with HR.
  • Create a positive, respectful, and high-performing team environment.
  • Recognize contributions, celebrate wins, and encourage peer-to-peer recognition.
  • Build trust through consistent leadership, active listening, open communication and team engagement activities.
  • Address interpersonal conflict promptly and model professional behavior.
  • Drive workflow improvements and optimize inside sales processes.
  • Use CRM and ERP data to identify trends, track performance, and uncover growth opportunities.
  • Set OneSource credentials and permissions for team members.
  • Lead quarterly KPI reviews and adjust plans as needed to stay aligned with company goals.
  • Partner with the Outside Sales Manager to lead annual Territory Growth Plan meetings.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing, Product Management, and Sales Leadership to ensure alignment.
  • Provide input into strategic initiatives based on customer trends, service feedback, and competitive intel.
  • Support quote follow-up, market study completion, and lead tracking across inside sales.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills with a hands-on coaching style.
  • Ability to build trust and lead through influence, especially across branches.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of building materials, including plywood, hardware, laminates, and composite products.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage time, priorities, and cross-functional communication.
  • Proficiency in CRM, ERP systems (DMSi Agility), and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to resolve conflict, guide team through change, and deliver consistent results.
  • Sales-driven mindset with focus on relationship-building, service, and operational excellence.

What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, sales, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of inside sales or customer service experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in building materials, construction supply, or distribution strongly preferred.
  • Ability to occasionally travel (30-40%) to branch locations for meetings, coaching, or events.
  • Product exposure to plywood, laminates, hardware, surfaces, or related specialty products is highly preferred.
